Following the launch of her monthly music capsule series, Reba McEntire released its second installment, Hurt Like That - EP, on May 22, 2026, via MCA. The collection once again paired a brand-new recording with carefully selected songs from McEntire’s extensive catalog, this time exploring one of the themes that had defined much of her five-decade career: heartbreak. The title track, “Hurt Like That,” was written by Kellys Collins and Casey Wood and produced by Dave Cobb, showcasing McEntire’s unmistakable ability to bring stories of longing, loss, and heartache to life.
The five-song collection placed the new recording alongside four standout songs from different eras of McEntire’s career: “Somebody Should Leave,” “For My Broken Heart,” “What Am I Gonna Do About You,” and “The Clown.” Together, the tracks demonstrated how heartbreak had remained a powerful thread throughout her music while highlighting the evolution of her sound and storytelling across the decades.
The capsule was followed by its companion playlist, The Rise of Reba, on June 1. Continuing the retrospective journey that began with The Making of Reba, the playlist explored McEntire’s breakthrough during the 1980s as she evolved into a chart-topping artist and one of country music’s defining voices. The release arrived amid another milestone year for McEntire, which also saw her landmark 1990 album Rumor Has It inducted into the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress.
